Nofziger Wins Kart Race In Tech Shed

Vance Nofziger, Pandora, formerly of Archbold, crossed the finish line second, but ended with the win in senior heavy class kart racing at Jackson, Mich., Thursday, June 19.

John Huffman, veteran Archbold kart racer, said he and Nofziger were racing in the senior heavy class. Nofziger had set the fastest time in qualifying; Huffman was second-fastest.

In the first heat, Nofziger was second, and Huffman third.

In the feature they again finished second and third, but Huffman said the winning kart overpowering the field, easily running away from the field.

“We were running quick, but he beat us like a drum. He had half a lap on us,” Huffman said.

After the race, track officials announced they were going to inspect the engines of all the competitors for illegal modifications.

The winner loaded up his racer and left before his racer could be inspected.

Because the winner refused to submit his kart for inspection, the win was given to Nofziger. Huffman also moved up to a second-place finish.

Also at Jackson on June 19 was Jeremy Mann, 13, Archbold. He was the second-fastest qualifier in junior econo, then went on to win the heat and the feature.

He also went to the dirt oval near Edon on Saturday, June 28, for two classes of racing. He was sixth in junior gold plate feature, and fifth in the box stock class feature.

Danielle Frey, Pettisville, was also running box stock at Edon, and finished third in the class feature.

He started the feature 12th, but managed to wheel his racer to a fourth-place finish.
