Nofziger Clinches Kart Racing Title At Jackson

Vance Nofziger, Pandora, formerly of Archbold, clinched the stock heavy class season points championship at the Jackson, Mich., kart track, Friday, Sept. 26.

Nofziger set fast time in qualifying, but limped his racer home third in the heat race with a flat right rear tire. He won the feature event, sewing up the season stock heavy championship.

He finished the season with nine feature wins and two third-place finishes.

Veteran Archbold kart racer John Huffman, an uncle to Nofziger, had been stock heavy points champ at Jackson for four years running.

Huffman said in a way, he won, too, because he prepared Nofziger’s racer each week.

Huffman himself qualified third in stock heavy, won the heat race, and was third in the feature.

With two races left in the season at Jackson, Danielle Frey, Pettisville, swept senior econo, setting a fast time, and winning the heat and feature.

She stretched her points lead in the class.

Huffman earlier clinched the season points championship in the stock 400 class at the Fremont track. He continued winning Sunday, Oct. 28, sweeping both heats and the feature.

In the junior econo class at Fremont, Jeremy Mann, 13, Archbold, had a second and two firsts. He was second in the first heat, then won the second heat and the feature.

Mark Frey, Archbold, ran his senior econo kart. He won his first heat, crashed in the second, then won the feature.

Kyle DeKnight, 13, Pettisville, had three second-place finishes in junior gold plate.
