A lot of experience returns for the Archbold girls soccer team as the 2014 season kicks off.
James Kidder, head coach, whose team finished last year with a 16-3 record and won the Northwest Ohio Athletic League with a 5-0 record, has 19 letterwinners returning.
“We are returning eight from our starting lineup last year that have lots of game experience, and several others who got lots of minutes last year, as well,” said Kidder.
“They are confident and strong and have worked hard in the off-season.
“Those players, in addition to the non-starters and incoming freshmen, are dedicated and have great expectations for themselves and the team.”
Returning seniors are Alexa Coressel, Second Team All-NWOAL, defense; Lauren Stuckey, Honorable Mention All-NWOAL, defense; Mara Beck, Hannah Yoder, Brittany Miller, midfield; Jensyn Garrow, First Team All-NWOAL, defense; Korey Arend, defense.
Juniors back are Madison Kohler, Second Team All- NWOAL, goalkeeper; Alicia Hernandez, First Team All-NWOAL, Second Team All-District, midfield; Cassi Wyse and Neila Kinsman, defense; Rebecca Schmucker and Mim Beck, midfield.
Sophomores returning are Sydney Ranzau, Emily Roth, McKenna Lantz, Dominique Dale, Lexa Richardson, and Marissa Fryman.
“We lost a lot in terms of soccer skills and leadership in our graduating seniors,” said Kidder.
“But our current seniors will step up and take control quickly.
“We will work hard to capture our fourth straight league title this year.
“No one can be taken for granted, but I anticipate tough competition from Swanton and Wauseon.
“We play a pretty tough schedule during the season, which will help us prepare for a strong tournament run.
“This season should be great, and I am looking forward to getting things underway with our first game with Springfield,” which was scheduled for yesterday, Tuesday.
Kidder also looks at incoming freshmen Emie Peterson, Kamryn Hostetler, and Brooke Kohler to contribute.
Lost to graduation were Cassidy Wyse (All-NWOAL team, district honorable mention); Jesse Fidler (All- NWOAL Player of the Year, Northwest Ohio District First Team); and Meggie Yoder (All-NWOAL, honorable mention all-district).
