Jill Holdgreve starts her fourth year as Archbold head volleyball coach with nine letterwinners from a team that went 9-13, 1-6 in the Northwest Ohio Athletic League last year.

“We have a solid group of ladies returning from last season,” said Holdgreve. “I know that they’ve learned a lot over last season and this summer.

“This group had gelled so well this summer. They have a sense of what each other’s strengths and weaknesses are, and they guide each other to make us better.”

Back are seniors Gabby Nafziger, setter; Blair Bucklew,

Alexa Wilson, and Lacie Henry, defensive specialists; Elee Kammeyer, Brittani Becher, and Kaitlyn Beck, hitters; and juniors Kayla Boettger, hitter, and Marli Cheney, hitter/setter.

Newcomers include junior Lauren Coressel, and sophomores Olivia Smith and Hadley Galvan.

Lost to graduation were Brooke Aeschliman, Macey Rupp, Lauren Miller, and Taylor Miller.

“There are new athletes coming up with little varsity experience that will need to fill some big shoes left from last year,” said Holdgreve.

“Those ladies have been stepping up to any challenge given, and I’m sure will be a great asset as the season goes along.

“The NWOAL will be competitive as always. In the NWOAL, no team can ever be overlooked.

“We always are working for that league title and are going to put in the extra time and work to get there.

“The league has some great teams this year, and it will be a fun ride.”

Archbold opens the season Thursday, Aug. 23, with a home match against Ayersville.
