Nine Candidates File For Gillmor Seat In Primary

A total of nine candidates met the Sept. 28 filing deadline for the vacant seat of Paul Gillmor, fifth district United States congressional representative. Gillmor, a Republican from Old Fort, died Sept. 5.

Six Republicans and three Democrats are on the Tuesday, Nov. 6 general election ballot that serves as the Congressional primary. The general election for the seat, with the party winners from the primary, is a special election set for Tuesday, Dec. 11.

Republicans seeking victory in the primary are Steve Buehrer, Delta; Mark Hollenbaugh and Robert Latta, Bowling Green; Fred Pieper, Paulding; Michael Reynolds, Columbus Grove; and Michael Smitley, Van Wert.

Earl Campbell, Perrysburg; George Mays, Norwalk; and Robin Weirauch, Napoleon, are Democrats running for the congressional seat.
