Newspapers Are The Cornerstone Of Your Community

In 1897, Mark Twain, the famous American writer, said, “The report of my death was an exaggeration,” after newspaper accounts reported Twain as being either ill or dead.

Today, newspapers often feel the same way, as pundits of the electronic wonderland known as the Internet have predicted the demise of newspapers for several years.

Yet today, the Archbold Buckeye and thousands of other papers continue to publish.

The Internet was believed to end newspapers. “Citizen Journalism” was supposed to end newspapers. Giant corporate-run local news websites were supposed to end newspapers.

Yet, as we celebrate National Newspaper Week, we are still here publishing the news of our community.

Certainly, the Buckeye and other newspapers have had to adapt and change with the times. Our staff is leaner, our style has changed, and like many other papers, we offer an online version of our product, www.ArchboldBuckeye.com.

Things that have not changed are our focus and our integrity.

When no other news outlet– be it radio, television, or Internetbased– cover local events, the Archbold Buckeye does. Archbold Library Board, Village Council, Archbold School Board, Pettisville School Board, Archbold Park Board meetings–we’re there, acting as the watchdog and cornerstone of the community. Others are not.

Plus, readers can rely on news published in the Buckeye. Articles in the Buckeye aren’t postings on social media by someone who thinks they know what’s going on but haven’t put in the time and the legwork to find out. Articles in the Buckeye are news, based on facts.

On top of that, the newspaper is a better reading experience. No half-dozen mouse clicks to find the information you want. No annoying pop-up ads. No waiting seemingly forever for new pages to appear.

Newspapers have struggled, as have other businesses. They have changed, adapting to their new environments. But ink on paper is still here, bringing you the news you need.
