The new Pettisville school building should be ready for students by the 2011-12 school year.

Eric Wiemken, a representative of the Buehrer Group, Inc., Maumee, architects on the project, led members of the school board on a tour of the construction site prior to their board meeting, Monday, Sept. 13.

The project is funded through the Ohio School Facilities Commission with a local match amount that is funded through a levy approved by district voters last year.

In conjunction with the building project, the district is planning the construction of a wind turbine to help supply electricity needs for the district.

According to Steve Switzer, district superintendent, Pettisville is nearing the time when the district will be able to bid the turbine project.

Switzer told the board that the district had secured an additional $100,000 American Recovery and Reinvestment grant to go toward the purchase of the turbine. Nearly all of the cost of the $1.8-million wind turbine will be covered through state and federal grants.

In another matter related to the building project, the board approved an easement for the Ohio Gas Company to install a four-inch natural gas line on school property along Co. Rd. D.

The school cost for the gas line will be $6,125, some of which could be reimbursed if other customers tap into the line.
