After a few weeks in Northwest Ohio, Jennifer Schmidt, youth and family minister at St. John Lutheran Church, rural Stryker, said she finds this corner of northwest Ohio “a warm and friendly community, with distinctive smalltown character.”
People are supportive of each other “and welcome newcomers with open arms,” she said.

Her next stop was Ann Arbor, Mich., where she earned a bachelor’s degree in family life education from Concordia University. She graduated in May 2008.
During her time at Concordia, she served an internship at Troy, Mich., at Faith Lutheran Church.
Schmidt is a CFLE- a certifi ed family life educator.
At St. John, “I have been hired for a part-time position, and my primary job is to work with the high school youth.
“I also give children’s messages, and I hope to get involved more with family ministry at St. John in the coming months.”
She was installed Sunday, Nov. 16.
In her off hours, she enjoys reading, camping, listening to, playing and singing music, writing, “and getting fresh air and exercise.”
