The Fulton County Commissioners named Justin Thompson as director of emergency management, Thursday, Jan. 21.
He replaces Brett Kolb, who was appointed Fulton County auditor, upon the retirement of Nancy Yackee.
Paul Barnaby, Fulton County commissioner, said, “Our selection was based on the interviews, expertise with communications modes, and skills needed to meet the requirements of the job.”
Thompson, a Delta native and 1996 Delta High School graduate, has been a Fulton County employee for 10 years. He started in maintenance, then moved into the county information technology department two years later.
While in IT, Thompson was involved in installing centralized data storage and telephones for county offices.
In his new position, Thompson said he brings knowledge of advanced communications to the table, with the goal of better developing the county emergency communications systems.
Learning the emergency services side of the job presents a challenge, “but I welcome challenges with open arms,” he said.
