Dennis Howell, Archbold village administrator, told Village Council Verizon plans to build a cellular telephone tower site this year.
News came at the Monday, April 18 council meeting.
Verizon, a cell phone service provider, and village officials negotiated a site for the 190-foot tower on East Holland Street. The site is roughly behind the village Street Department garage, on land adjacent to Lions Park.
Originally announced as a 2016 project, Howell told council earlier construction had been pushed back to 2017.
At the meeting, he said he was notified the company intends to move forward with construction yet this year.
Howell said the company’s decision had nothing to do with a recent Archbold Buckeye editorial on the topic.
