Michael Lane, Pettisville High School principal, announced Monday that the PHS quiz team, the “Nerd Herd,” won the 2018-19 Northern Buckeye Academic League championship.
Lane said the Pettisville and Evergreen teams concluded their seasons with 10-1 records.
The championship, however, defaults to the team that scored the most points, “which makes Pettisville High School the outright season champion.”
A social media post had originally announced a tie between the two teams, “which is incorrect,” Lane said.
“The Northwest Ohio Educational Service Center, sponsors of the NBAL, clearly recognizes Pettisville High School as the outright season champion,” he said.
Information from the NWOESC, provided by Rebecca Dorosz, team coach, said the Nerd Herd’s only loss of the season was to Wauseon.
Evergreen’s only loss was to Pettisville.
Pettisville finished the season with 486 total points, compared to Evergreen’s 471.
Wauseon finished third with an 8-3 record and 391 points. Archbold chalked up the same 8-3 record, finishing fourth with 377 points.
Lane told the Pettisville School Board during its Monday, Feb. 11 meeting, the team will host a major quiz meet on Saturday, March 2.
Quiz teams from throughout the region will be at the school from 9 am-4 pm to participate in the meet known as PettiWars.
The final NBAL tournament is Friday, March 15.
