Kevin “Scoop” Miller, a physical education teacher at Archbold Middle School and head girls basketball coach at Fayette, was named the Division IV Girls Basketball Coach of the Year for the 2015-16 season by the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association.
A 1984 Goshen (Ind.) College graduate, Miller guided the Eagles to a 26-2 record this season.
They won the Buckeye Border Conference with a perfect 10-0 record, were sectional champions, district champions, and regional runners-up.
In Miller’s three seasons at Fayette the Eagles have sported a 62-13 record.
Prior to Miller’s arrival the Eagles had six out of seven losing campaigns while averaging seven wins and 15 losses during that span.
Miller was also named District 7 coach of the year for the fifth time in his career and the Crescent News Coach of the Year for the second time during his tenure.
He was the head girls basketball coach at Archbold from 1998-2008, compiling a 175-64 record during his tenure.
AHS was the Div. III state runner-up in 2002, advanced to the regional semifinal in 2003, the district final in 2004 and 2005, and the district semifinals in 2006 and 2008.
The Archbold Area School Board chose not to rehire Miller as girls basketball coach at its Aug. 18, 2008, meeting.
