Merlin J. Fluckinger, age 86 years, of Archbold, passed away Sunday morning, May 12, 2013, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.
He was born Feb. 20, 1927, near Ridgeville Corners, the son of Clifford and Ella (Neuhauser) Fluckinger, and married Nancy Eicher on June 7, 1953.
A lifelong resident of the Ridgeville Corners/Archbold area, he owned and operated a poultry business and was a bookkeeper, working at Bil- Jax, Zehr Fertilizer Company, and retired from Dennis Potato Farms.
He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He enjoyed traveling, golfing, and family time. He served on the original Fairlawn Board of Directors and later on the Resident Council Board and sang in the Fairlawn Village Choir.
He was a member of Archbold Evangelical Church.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; five children, Jim (Judy) Flickinger of Wheaton, Ill., John D. Fluckinger of Bryan, Carolyn (John Muffler) Fluckinger of Yonkers, N.Y., Bob (Mary) Flickinger of Bluffton, and Don (Kate Binder) Fluckinger of Nashua, N.H.; eight grandchildren; one greatgrandson; one sister, Phyllis (Dean) Short of Archbold, and a brother-in-law, Ed Krauss of Swanton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Margaret; and two sisters, Carol Miller and Bernetta Krauss.
Memorial services will be held today, Wednesday, at 10:30 a.m. at Archbold Evangelical Church with Dr. John Muffler and Pastor Jesse Kahler officiating. Interment will precede at 9 a.m. in the Pettisville Cemetery.
Short Funeral Home in Archbold was entrusted with the arrangements.
