Melvin F. Lange, age 85 years, of Archbold, passed away Oct. 25, 2010, at the Defi ance Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance.
He was born March 22, 1925, near Okolona, to Alvin and Marie Lange. He married Ruth Marilyn Drewes on June 14, 1953.
In 1954, Melvin started Lange’s Bakery in Archbold, where he was known for his German Coffee Cake. This he did for 44 years.
Melvin enjoyed working with various activities and work of the church. He was a Sunday School teacher for many years.
He also volunteered with Maumee Youth Group and he enjoyed being a member of the German Lutheran Heritage Association, the Low German Club and the Garden Club. He had a great love for flowers and gardening.
Melvin’s greatest love was his family, especially his grandchildren: Mark, Allison, David, Nathaniel, Andrea, Breanna, Joel, Ethan, Adrianne, Jacob, Joshua, and Drew, and greatgrandson Anderson.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Marilyn; four sons, Philip (Susan) Lange, Stephen (Tina) Lange, Daniel (Debra) Lange, Timothy (Bonnie) Lange, and one daughter, Pamela (Steven) Meyers, all of Archbold; 12 grandchildren; one greatgrandson; one brother, Arthur (Helen), Napoleon; and one sister, Marie (Culvur) Knollman, Toledo.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Frederick; three sisters, Luetta, Lillian, and Lovina.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday at 11 am. at Zion Mennonite Church in Archbold, with Pastors Cliff Brubaker and Mona Sauder officiating. Interment will precede in the Johnson Cemetery.
Friends may call at Zion from 3-8 p.m., today, Wednesday.
Short Funeral Home in Archbold has been entrusted with the arrangements.
