Medical Clinic Helps Citizens

Medical professionals and others in Fulton County are joining together to seal gaps in the social safety net.

The Fulton County Free Clinic, which opens this week, is intended to provide medical care for persons who have none.

There are citizens whose employers cannot provide health insurance, and they can’t afford it, either.

To qualify for free services from the new county clinic, a person’s income must be less than 150% of the federal poverty level. For a family of four, that’s $30,975.

The clinic should help improve the quality of life for its patients. They can see a physician, rather than waiting for an illness to become critical. Persons who qualify can see a physician without wiping out their savings.

It’s a welcome way for health care professionals to provide service to the community. Funding is provided by private donations, creating another opportunity for citizens to help meet the needs of friends and neighbors.
