Mary I. Kauffman Short, daughter of Jacob and Amanda (Schmucker) Nafziger, was born near Archbold on Sept. 28, 1917.
She passed away on Jan. 26, 2012, at Fairlawn Haven. Her age was 94 years.
On Jan. 1, 1939, Mary was united in marriage to Lawrence Kauffman, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 1952. She married Virgil Short Feb. 5, 1965, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 1994.
A resident of Archbold all of her life, Mary had a great love for gardening, flowers and cooking.
She was a charter member of Zion Mennonite Church, a member of the Archbold Garden Club, Lamplighters, and was a volunteer at Fulton County Health Center.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol Beck of Archbold, and Elaine Rupp of Florida; four stepchildren, Mary Ann (Lowell) Yoder of Stryker, Joe Short of Colorado, Ned Short of Stryker, and Tim (Jane) Short of Goshen, Ind.; step-daughter-in-law, Patricia Short of Michigan; three grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and 14 stepgreat grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; two sons-in-law; two grandchildren; one brother; one sister; one stepson; and one step-daughter-in-law.
A memorial service was held on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Zion Mennonite Church with Pastors Mona Sauder, Jeff Kauffman, and Jane Friesen officiating. A family service was at 2:30 p.m. at Short Funeral Home with interment following in the Pettisville Cemetery.
