Mary F. Cornett, 91, a former resident of Marysville, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2012, at Friendship Village of Dublin.
She was born Mary Florence Elsom on Oct. 8, 1921, to the late Lee and Edith Latimer Elsom, and grew up near Ostrander.
In October 1943, she married Dallas Cornett in the midst of World War II when he was a cadet in Alabama before serving as a navigator in B17s, flying out of Italy in 1944.
After the war they moved to Prospect, Ohio, where they raised their family of three sons, as her husband was an educator at Pleasant Local High School in Marion County.
After her sons were older, she was a school secretary for the Elgin Local Schools and, later, for the Archbold school system in Northwest Ohio when Dallas was director of Four County Vocational School in the late 70s and early 80s.
When they retired, they moved back to Marysville and were active members of the First United Methodist Church.
Dallas and Mary visited local nursing homes, where Mary played the piano for singing and other activities.
Mary was also a volunteer for many years at the gift shop at Memorial Hospital of Union County.
She was a member of the fortnightly club and had many old and new friends in the area.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas, and brothers Don, Bill, Russell, Warren, Max, and Ben Elsom. Her older sister Mildred Maxwell also preceded her in death.
Mary is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. James (Sandra) Cornett and Richard (Barbara) Cornett, both of Columbus, and Dr. Jeff (Vicki) Cornett, Jacksonville, Fla.; six grandchildren, Erin (Bryce) Griffing, Sara (Joe) McSwords, Robert (Kelly) Cornett, James (Emily) Cornett, Michael Cornett, and Erica Cornett; and seven greatgrandchildren, Kayla, Shelby, Logan and Brody McSwords, Dallas and Ella Cornett, and Gideon Cornett; and many nieces and nephews.
