Martinez Draws Prison Sentence After January Incident In Archbold

Carlos F. Martinez, 37, Defi ance, who was charged in connection with an incident that occurred in Archbold in January, was sentenced to prison.

Martinez broke into the home of Catrina L. Wright, 30, 310 Middle Street, about 2:34 pm, Wednesday, Jan. 18.

Once inside, information from Archbold police states he attacked both Wright and Jose L. Gutierrez, age and address unknown.

Wright told police she thought Martinez slashed Gutierrez with a knife at least twice.

Gutierrez declined to cooperate with police.

Wright fled to a neighbor’s home and called police; the two men fled the residence on foot.

APD issued press releases, and regional press and electronic media covered the incident.

Defiance police captured Martinez, Friday, Jan. 20. He was taken to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio, where, as of Sunday afternoon, April 29, he was still being held.

He was indicted on two counts of aggravated burglary plus counts of domestic violence and felonious assault on Jan. 24.

Scott Haselman, county prosecuting attorney, said in a press release, “On Jan. 18, 2012, Martinez caused physical harm to a family member.”

He entered a guilty plea to a single domestic violence charge in Fulton County Common Pleas Court on March 16.

James E. Barber, common pleas court judge, sentenced Martinez on Thursday, April 26, to 30 months in prison.
