Marilyn Jeanne Kuhn died Sept. 12, 2013, in Wauseon.
She was born in Bryan on March 13, 1930, to Mabel and Russell Dierks. She was born in veil, making her special at the moment of birth.
Part of her childhood was spent in the Toledo Childrens Hospital due to a congenital hip. Three children were operated on, but Marilyn was the only one to walk.
Even though one leg was six inches shorter than the other, she never let it stop her. She graduated from Bryan High School in 1948.
On July 30, 1948, she wedded Robert Gene Kuhn.
Marilyn worked as a waitress at LaMars in Bryan for several years until the family moved to Ayersville. She managed the Star Apparel in Defiance, when her girls got older.
Later in life she worked at the Deluxe Cleaners.
Marilyn volunteered her time to area groups. She served on the Board of Elections, cooked for the Rotary, led Girl Scouts and Brownies, helped with Bible School, worked in the Altar Society at church, aided in the Red Cross blood drives, and served in Eastern Stars.
She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Defiance for many years.
Surviving Marilyn are two daughters, Rick (Sherri) Bishop of Stryker and Donald (Karen) McAfee of Archbold; four grandchildren, Tondra Vermillion, Peter McAfee, Samantha (Bud) Whaley, Erica (Anthony) Godsey; four great grandchildren, Courtney Ryan, Ethan Whaley, Madison Whaley, and Carson Godsey; and one great-great-grandson, Elias Ryan.
She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Ted and Charles Dierks; and one grandson, Shawn Vermillion.
The funeral service was Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Defiance, with Rev. David Brobston officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant View Union Cemetery, Fayette.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Defiance.
