Marcus Samuel Buehrer, 82, of Ashland, died Saturday, May 25, 2013, at Brethren Care Nursing Center in Ashland.
Born May 24, 1931 in Ridgeville Corners, he was the son of Samuel and Sophia (Klundt) Buehrer.
Marcus was a graduate of Heidelberg College and Eden Theological Seminary. He pastored at Grace United Church of Christ in Columbus, Oak Creek United Church of Christ in Kettering, and then retired in October 1997 from St. John’s United Church of Christ in Mansfield.
Marcus was also a volunteer fireman as well as chaplain for the Kettering Volunteer Fire Department.
He was a member of Mansfield Downtown Optimist and loved to grow his roses, go fishing, and do wood carvings.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jane (Herbster) Buehrer of Ashland; daughters, Elizabeth (Kenyon) Glor of Wellington and Cynthia (Philip) Hess of North Canton; sons, Timothy (Carol Walker) Buehrer of Jakarta, Indonesia, Benjamin (Tracey Moore) Buehrer of Durham, N.C., and Raul (Andrea) Villarreal of Centerville; grandchildren, Ethan, Benjamin, and Emily Glor, Nicole (Clark) Taynton, Jessica and Jacob Hess, Charles Walker, Sophia Buehrer, and Alexandra and Eric Villarreal; brother, William (Donna) Buehrer of Archbold; sister, Grace (Erv) Koch of Brunswick; brother-in-law, Lloyd Rychener of Archbold; sister-in-law, Anne Liston of Woodstock, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Rychener and an infant brother.
Services will be held Thursday, May 30, 2013, at 1 p.m. at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 68 Park Ave. E., Mansfield, conducted by Rev. Samuel Buehrer. Private family burial will be held in Mansfield Cemetery.
