The top four finishers in each event advance to the regional meet, today, Wednesday, 4 p.m., and Friday, May 31, 5 p.m., at Tiffin.

Finishing second at the district meet and advancing to the regional are Austin Dykstra, high jump; Frey, 1600; and the 4×400 team of Mann, Dykstra, Dustin Lucas, and Ethan Brakefield, who set a school record.

Placing third were Justin Pursel, pole vault; Brakefield, 300-meter hurdles, who set a school record; and the 4×200 team of Brakefield, Dykstra, David Reyes, and Caleb Liechty.

The Blackbirds finished third in the team standings with 96 points. Tinora and Fairview tied for the district title with 105 points.

I’m very proud of all our kids,” said Tom Wagner, PHS head coach. “Everyone left it all on the track or field.

“In the boys meet we thought we had a shot of finishing in the top two spots as a team. We came up a little short, but not from a lack of effort. Hats off to Tinora and Fairview.

“Our kids stepped it up to the next level. I’m not sure we could have squeezed any more points in our effort.

“We hope to use this performance as a springboard to step up to the next level at the regional meet in Tiffin.”
