Mann, Huffman Win At Fremont Track

Jeremy Mann, 12, and John Huffman were winners in their classes at the Fremont kart racing track, Sunday, May 18.

Fremont went to a different format, requiring racers to qualify for starting spots, run one heat, then run a 30-lap feature, 10 laps longer than usual.

Running in junior econo, Mann went out and set fast time, and then swept both the heat and the feature, winning a close battle in the last few laps of the main event.

In pro oval super heavy, Huffman set fast time, but as he was taking the starting grid for the heat race, he discovered his right rear wheel had broken, putting him out.

With repairs made in time for the feature, Huffman went out and was running in third place on the last lap. But when the first- and second-place karts began dicing, Huffman capitalized on the battle and passed both for the victory.

Tyler Herschberger, who turns 13 today, Wednesday, May 21, was the second-fastest qualifier in the 250cc unrestricted mini-sprints at Jackson, Mich., Saturday, May 17.

In the heat race, he was leading with two laps to go, but had a problem with his racer’s clutch, and had to settle for second.

He was third in the feature.- information provided by Lavon Herschberger and John Huffman. Written by David Pugh
