Man Reports Identity Theft

Eduardo Cruz Garcia, Archbold, told Archbold Police someone was using his personal information for telephone service.

Garcia reported the incident to the police on Wednesday, July 9.

He told officers he received a notice from Embarq, informing him that he had a past-due bill for telephone service in Lima. Garcia never lived in Lima, and does not know anyone in that city. The telephone company said someone used his name, date of birth, and social security number to establish the service.

While looking into the problem, Garcia also learned his information had also been used to establish a cell phone account in the Toledo area.

Officers gave Garcia information from the Ohio Attorney General office, and was advised to contact credit agencies.
