Todd Shafer, Defiance police chief, said a man was arrested and charged with menacing and firearms-related charges at the Archbold Indian Lake football game, Friday, Nov. 3.
The regional quarterfinal playoff game was moved from Archbold to the Defi- ance High School field due to field conditions in the Archbold Athletic Complex.
In a press release, Shafer said officers were called to the DHS parking lot about 7:05 pm to investigate a report that a man had threatened another man with a firearm.
“Upon arrival, it was found that a disturbance had occurred in the parking lot when one of them pointed a firearm at the other,” Shafer said in the release.
“Officers recovered a firearm from the vehicle of David McCabe, 56, rural Mc- Clure.
“Mr. McCabe was charged with aggravated menacing, a first-degree misdemeanor; illegal possession of a deadly weapon in a school safety zone, a fifth degree felony; and improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle, a fourth degree felony.”
McCabe was taken into custody and booked into the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio.
McCabe appeared in Defi- ance Municipal Court Monday morning, where bond was set at $75,000. Anyone posting bond for McCabe is allowed to post 10%, or $7,500.
As of 1 pm Tuesday, Nov. 7, McCabe was still in custody at CCNO.
