Lucile Short, 98, of Stryker, passed away Monday morning, Jan. 19, 2009 at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.
Lucile had spent most of her life in the Stryker area, along with her husband, Earl, on the family farm.
Lucile was born in rural Archbold on Sept. 27, 1910, the daughter of the late Solomon and the late Emma (Nofziger) Short. On Sept. 27, 1933 she married Earl Short, and he preceded her in death in 1996.
She was a charter member of the Pine Grove Mennonite Church, near Stryker.
She had worked as a cook in the Stryker Schools for many years. She was also a member of the Williams County Gideon Camp Auxiliary.
Surviving are three sons, Roger D. Short of Stryker, E. Philip (Barbara) Short of Stryker, John D. (Terrie) Short of Archbold; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Lucile was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; daughter-in-law, Lyn Short; one grandson, Todd Shock; four sisters, Wilma Short, Rosa Nafziger, Lillian King and Ella Miller; and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 23, 2009, at Pine Grove Mennonite Church, with Pastor Walter Campbell officiating. Interment services will be held at the Lockport Cemetery, near Stryker at 10 a.m. on Friday.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2 until 8 p.m. in the Chapel at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.
The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Pine Grove Mennonite Church, Williams County Gideon Camp Auxiliary, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
