Local Voters In Generous Mood On Election Day

Voters in Fulton County were in a generous mood, Tuesday, Nov. 6, approving all 11 tax issues put before them.

Voters in German township passed the replacement of the township road levy, 1,936-684, a 1,252-vote margin of victory.

When the replacement was approved, voters effectively reset the millage to the full one-mill amount.

In the past, the millage was reduced to avoid revenue growing as property values appreciated.

For the trustees, the replacement will mean levy revenue will more than double, from about $86,000 to more than $188,000.

Melanie Gilders, director of the Fulton County Board of Elections, said voter turnout in Fulton County was 54.99%.

She said the figure is high, but not unheard of, for a gubernatorial election year.

Four years ago, in 2014, turnout was 38.1%; in 2010, it was 48.5%.

Gilders said the final official vote count is Tuesday, Nov. 20.

As of Monday, she said there were still 221 provisional ballots to be counted and 229 absentee ballots that had been requested, but not yet returned.

In order for an absentee ballot to be counted, it must be received by Friday, Nov. 16. She added not all absentee ballots requested are usually returned.

None of the issues are in danger of being reversed or changed as a result of absentee and provisional ballots.
