Local Convenience Store Seeks Sunday Alcohol Sales

An Archbold convenience store will ask voters to allow the sale of beer on Sunday during the Tuesday, Nov. 6 general election.

It’s one of several ballot issues submitted to the Fulton County Board of Elections.

Archbold Sunoco, a combination gas station-convenience store on the south side, filed petitions with the Board of Elections to seek approval for sale of beer on Sunday between 10 am and midnight.

Deadline for local issues for the November ballot was Wednesday, Aug. 8.

Under Ohio law, only voters in the precinct where the store is located, Archbold Precinct One, will cast ballots to decide the question.

The boundaries of Precinct One roughly include all properties within the village limits east of Defiance Street, to Miller Ave. on the south.

Before the question can be put to voters, the board must officially certify the petitions.

Kandice Lemley, director of the board, said the board is schedule to meet at 9 am, Monday, Aug. 20. At that time, she anticipates the board will certify the petitions.

Lemley said she did not see any problems with the petition.

Franklin Township Trustees will ask their voters to renew a six-tenths (.6) of a mill levy, with a five-year term.

The levy provides “fire apparatus and the payment of fire-fighting companies and to provide ambulance and emergency medical services.”

The levy was replaced in 2007, essentially resetting it to then-current property values.

Since that time, the levy has been reduced to allow for inflation. The current effective millage is .417948. For Tax Year 2011, payable 2012, the levy will generate $7,909.
