Lloyd J. Grieser, age 94 years, of Archbold, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 16, 2012, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home in Archbold.

He was born March 1, 1918, near Archbold, the son of Verden and Nellie (Short) Grieser, and married Elvesta Christner on March 1, 1940.

A lifelong resident of the Archbold area, he worked at Rich Ford as a salesman for many years, and then became a life insurance broker with several life insurance companies.

Lloyd with his wife worked for Mennonite Central Committee in Akron, Pa., and Montreat, N.C. near Ashville for three months at a time.

He always enjoyed singing in quartets at many churches and spending winters in Sarasota, Fla.

He served in Civilian Public Service during WW II.

He was a member of Lockport Mennonite Church and then helped with church planting at Pine Grove Mennonite Church, and since was a member of the Zion Mennonite Church in Archbold, and Gideons International.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Elvesta; two children, Colette (Mark) Yoder- Overly of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Ron (Ruth) Grieser of Archbold; four grandchildren, Shane (Waleska) Yoder, Shauna (Sean) Elsten, Chad (Angel) Grieser, and Lisa (Ben) Osterland; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Orval (Norma) Grieser of Archbold; and a sister, Pauline (Glen) Gunden of Goshen, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Murl Yoder; and a brother, Gerald Grieser.

A memorial service was held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the Zion Mennonite Church with Pastors Mona Sauder and Jeff Kauffman officiating.

Short Funeral Home in Archbold was entrusted with the arrangements.
