Lincoln Street Progress Reported

Paving on the village of Archbold’s North Lincoln Street- East Williams Street reconstruction project could start tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 11, Bob Seaman, Archbold village engineer, said Tuesday, Oct. 9.

The last overhead utilities were moved from old utility poles to new ones Monday, Oct. 8, and workers removed the old poles. The poles were located where plans called for curbs and sidewalks.

The final curbs, sidewalks, and driveway approaches were to be finished Tuesday.

“By the end of the day (Tuesday), all concrete work should be completed,” Seaman said.

While concrete work was being finished, Seaman said workers for Brooks Contracting, Perrysburg, the contractor on the project, were finishing the final grading of the stone base for the new streets. Final compaction of the stone base was set for Wednesday.

If the weather cooperates, Seaman said workers could be laying asphalt Thursday.

First, a base course will be put down. After the first course of asphalt cools, a second intermediate course will be laid. Seaman said Brooks Contracting crews think they can put down both courses in one day.

Before the final asphalt coat can be done, manholes in the street must be adjusted to the final grade level. That could take two or three days, Seaman said.

By the middle of next week, the street project could be substantially complete, he said.

Brooks Contracting missed the Sept. 1 completion deadline. Village officials will have to determine how many days of delay the company experienced due to weather and other factors. Once that number has been determined, the contract between the village and the company allows the village to assess penalties for missing the deadline.
