License Plate Wasn’t Stolen, Police Decide

The reported theft of a license plate turned out not to be a theft, Archbold police determined recently.

James M. Lee, 28, Napoleon, told police on Friday morning, March 23, his wife had stolen the license plate from his vehicle sometime between 11 pm, Thursday, March 22 and 2 am the following day, while it was parked at NuArch Lanes.

He told officers his spouse came into the bowling center, and got upset with him. A short time later, she called the center and advised him she had his license plate.

An APD officer contacted the wife. The officer stated in the police report that the wife “advised she had the plate, and he could get (it) when he sobered up.”

The report concludes, “Due to the parties being legally married, no theft offense occurred. Case closed.”
