In a Monday press release, the Archbold Library Board announced Sonya L. Huser, Muncie, Ind., has been appointed the new library director.
Huser earned a master’s degree in library science from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., and has worked as a school media specialist for Muncie (Ind.) Community Schools.
She currently serves as the youth services specialist (II) at the Maring-Hunt branch of the Muncie Public Library.
“My time at IU Bloomington provided me with some great opportunities to work in a variety of settings,” she said.
“More importantly to the Archbold community, perhaps, I have public library experience.
“In 2016, Muncie Community Schools and the Muncie Public Library began an unprecedented partnership, which I helped develop.
“My school collections were absorbed into the public library system. I received extensive training on public library procedures, policies, and protocols.”
Huser grew up in Goshen, Ind.
“I’m looking forward to working in a small town like Archbold that’s relatively close to my family, and also within a short drive of a large community, Toledo.”
Huser replaces Joyce Klingelsmith, who, after almost 30 years of service– more than 27 years as director– announced her retirement in March.
Klingelsmith’s last official day is Dec. 31, but based on accrued unused vacation time, her last day in the library will be sometime in mid-November.
Huser starts her new job Monday, Nov. 13, to have time working with Klingelsmith.
Huser’s hiring was approved by the library board at a special meeting, Monday, Oct. 23.
“The library is more than just books, Huser said, adding, “I can’t wait to show you all what we are capable of together.”
