Library Board Freezes Employees’ 2009 Wages

During their Wednesday, Dec. 10, meeting, members of the Archbold Community Library board voted to freeze wages of library employees for 2009.

Last December the employees received a three percent wage increase for 2008.

The 2009 decision was reached in a closed executive session, which lasted more than half an hour.

During its open meeting, the board discussed library finances. Joyce Klingelsmith, library director, said she is concerned about present and future reductions of library funds from the state.

Klingelsmith spoke with Nancy Yackee, Fulton County Auditor, about projected money the library will receive from a library issue approved four years ago.

Yackee expects it to produce about the same or more revenue for the library, although she stated tax revenue from agriculture is difficult to estimate.

Currently, the board plans a May 5, 2009 levy request. It will ask voters to renew the current levy of .4 (four tenths) of a mill plus ask for an additional .3 (three tenths) of a mill.

The annual Christmas party for the library is planned for Jan. 9. The next regular meeting of the board is Wednesday, Jan. 14.

All members of the board were present at the meeting.- Sharon Taylor
