Letter To The Editor

I went to the meat store the other day. I saw a particularly beautiful beef roast for $4.99 per pound.

Since I did not know the exact weight of the roast, I handed the clerk a twentydollar bill. The roast weighed only three and a half pounds, so my roast cost $17.47.

The clerk asked if I wanted anything else or change for the twenty. I requested the change.

I thought about this transaction while I was reading your Page 1 article in the May 19 edition about the new Pettisville school bids coming in under the estimated cost.

Instead of spending the excess on options, why doesn’t the school board first offer the unrequired money back to the taxpayers.

Who knows, maybe the taxpayers need their “change” worse than the school needs terrazzo floors.
