“Let’s Reminisce” Series At Fairlawn

Do you remember Fish’s Five and Dime? Or Gert & Bud’s Restaurant? Storrer’s Marathon?

How about Jim & Dale’s IGA? Hit Archery? Wyse Book & Office Supply?

You can share your memories of these businesses, or learn more about them, at the Fairlawn Retirement Community “Let’s Reminisce” Series.

The first event is Thursday, April 28, from 3:30-7 pm at the Fairlawn Chapel.

Nanette Buehrer, director of development and community services at Fairlawn, said the six businesses mentioned have formally expressed an interest in attending the open house-style event.

“Let’s Reminisce” is a chance for former business owners to visit with the public.

It will be a time of “informal sharing of stories and reminiscing about working or shopping at the businesses, while looking at some memorabilia from the stores,” Buehrer said.

“The highlight will be a 25-minute video of Archbold businesses and school students, taken in 1960.

“This video will loop throughout the business fair, so people will see it whenever they come.

“We believe this was a professionally-produced video, done by a company who probably asked the businesses in the video for funds to produce it.

“There are no words, but lots of fun 1960s-era background music.

“Lots of local people are in the video, as it pans employees working at various businesses and attendees at the local Rotary, Lions Club, and Garden Club lunches.”

Other Activities

In addition to the open house, Buehrer said staff members from Sauder Village will be on hand to look over items of Archbold memorabilia that people are willing to loan for the village historical display.

Those with artifacts that relate to Archbold history who are willing to loan them to the Village for display are encouraged to bring the items along, Buehrer said.

Also on hand will be members of Archbold Boy Scout Troop 63, who will collect items to put in a time capsule.

The capsule will be stored in the village municipal building, with instructions to open in 50 years.

More?

Buehrer said she had heard about other former business owners who were thinking of attending the “Let’s Reminisce” event.

Business owners who are considering attending may contact her at 567-444-5086 so table space is available.
