Lela F. Shinabery





Lela F. Shinabery, age 85, Archbold, passed away Saturday, Jan. 31, 2009, at Fairlawn Haven Nursing Home, Archbold.

Born Sept. 22, 1923, near Hudson, Mich., Lela is the daughter of Lawrence and Lela ((Cisco) Zimmerman. She married Robert M. Shinabery on July 3, 1943. He preceded her in death on July 18, 1999.

Lela graduated from Fayette High School, attended Cleary College, and was the first secretary at M&S Manufacturing in Hudson. She became a homemaker and later, a volunteer teacher’s aide at Hudson Elementary School, and Cherry Coat at Bixby Hospital, Adrian.

A longtime Hudson-area resident, she was a former member of the Reformed Mennonite Church at Lauber Hill, and the Central Mennonite Church near Archbold. Lela moved to Archbold in 2000, where she attended the Archbold Evangelical Church.

She is survived by two sons, Robert (Kathleen) Shinabery, Branson, Mo., and Wayne (Deborah) Shinabery, Archbold; and three daughters, Joyce (Lyle) Hutchison, Green Valley, Ariz., Brenda (Gene) Metz, Fayette, and Eileen (Larry) Baus, Archbold; 15 grandchildren; 16 greatgrandchildren; one brother, Eldon (Maryann) Zimmerman, Lake Seneca, Mich.; three sisters, Wanda (the late Winfield) Austin, Camden, Mich., Thelma (the late Dale) Munsell, Perrysburg, and Phyllis (Richard) McCloe, Brooklyn, Mich.

Lela was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Lowell Zimmerman and Cisco Zimmerman.

Services were yesterday, Tuesday, at 2 p.m. at the Fairlawn Chapel in Archbold with Pastor Stuart Rex officiating. Interment followed in the Lauber Hill Cemetery.

Short Funeral Home in Archbold was entrusted with the arrangements.

The family suggests memorials be to Good News Methodist Church with “Lily Troyer Fund” on the memo line, or the Missionary Alliance Church with “Mullinax Missionary Fund” on the memo line.
