Larry W. Ruffer, age 81, of Archbold, passed away Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, at Fairlawn Haven in Archbold.
Larry Ruffer was an avid lover of all things Christmas. He just celebrated his 80th birthday with a Christmas themed party and a visit from Santa.
He enjoyed dressing up as Santa for the preschool children at the Fulton County Board of DD. His bedroom was decorated year ‘round in Christmas décor.
Larry was born in Wauseon on April 11, 1936, the son of Don and Nettie (Pace) Ruffer.
Larry loved spending time making wreaths for his parents’ grave, which he visited weekly, making them for his bedroom, and any holiday. He loved crafting, rings, necklaces, and anything with painting or coloring. He enjoyed showing off his rings and artwork to anyone who wished to see them.
He also enjoyed cooking shows and cooking magazines.
He leaves behind many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
Larry spent his later life living at the Archbold Family Care Home through Sunshine Communities. He enjoyed his roommates, Melissa, Austin, Andy and Dawn. He also had a very special friend Cathy who he enjoyed spending time with.
They all participated in the Pettisville Missionary Church group called the “SONshine” class, which he attended every Sunday, then followed by a relaxing Sunday afternoon in his outdoor swing or glider watching the birds and squirrels.
Larry and his roommates enjoyed vacationing together. They took trips to the lake to go on boat rides, Mackinaw Island, Camping at KOA, trips to the Toledo Zoo, Art Museum, Hollywood Casino, Goll Woods, Harrison Lake and many many shopping trips, especially anything that involved a garage sale.
Larry leaves behind many caring staff from Sunshine Communities that have cared for him.
He also attended the HUB/ Senior Program through Triangular Processing with a very special friend, Paulette, who will truly miss him.
Visitation for Larry will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, at the Grisier Funeral Home in Archbold, where the funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the Archbold Cemetery.
