Kyle Lantz, a Pettisville fifth grader, ran to a third-place finish at the Ohio middle school cross country championship meet, Sunday, Oct. 26, in Dublin.
Lantz competed in the sixth grade-and-under division. He ran the two-mile course in 12 minutes, 11.8 seconds, just three tenths of a second behind the second-place runner.
The winner was Troy Schultz, a sixth grade student who ran the course in 11:34.
The middle school cross country championship is sponsored by the Ohio Middle School Athletic Association and is open to individual runners from across the state. Runners from all school divisions compete in the same race, with no team competition allowed.
Lantz is the son of Dave and Amy, Pettisville.
