Kade Kern, AHS ‘20 and son of Keith and Kim, was named the 2019-20 Gatorade Ohio Baseball Player of the Year.

The award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement, and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.

He is now a finalist for the National Baseball Player of the Year award from the company.

The 6-foot, 195-pound senior outfielder is the state’s top player in the Class of 2020 as rated by Prep Baseball Report, and a 2020 Perfect Game Midwest Preseason First Team All- American selection.

A 2019 First Team All- State selection, he batted .431 with three home runs, 38 runs scored, and 32 runs batted in for the Streaks in 2019, leading AHS to a berth in the Division III regional finals.

AmemberoftheFellowship of Christian Athletes, Kern has volunteered locally on behalf of his church youth group and as a youth baseball coach.

Kern had maintained a 3.78 gpa. He plans to play baseball on scholarship at The Ohio State University.

“This is a tremendous honor for Kade, and he is certainly worthy of it,” said Dick Selgo, AHS head baseball coach.

“His baseball skills are outstanding, and his work ethic is off the charts.

“Kade has all the tools and talent of a great player. He hits for power, runs well, has a very strong arm, and is an excellent outfielder.

“He has been a tremendous influence on every player in our baseball program.

“The other part of this that people need to know about Kade is what a great young man he is. He is an excellent student, humble, and cares about others as much as himself.

“It’s a shame that Archbold fans did not get a chance to watch him play this spring. Our coaching staff wishes him nothing but the best in his future.”
