Junior High Wrestlers Compete At State

While none brought home state places, three Archbold eighth graders wrestled hard and represented their school well at the 2017 Ohio Junior High State Wrestling Championships, Saturday and Sunday, March 18-19, in Youngstown.

Andrew Francis (108 pounds), son of Einstein and Nisha, was pinned in his first match, had a bye in the first round of consolations, and won his third match 5- 2, moving him on to Sunday morning, where he lost a 10- 2 major decision.

Carson Meyer, wrestling at 132 lbs., is the son of Ben and Crystal. He pinned his opponent in the first round and won a 10-8 decision in the second. He lost his third match by a 16-0 technical fall, moving him down to the consolation bracket on Sunday, where he lost by a 4-2 decision.

Joshua Richer, son of Jerry and Caroline, wrestled at 164 lbs. He pinned his first opponent and won by an 8-4 decision in his second match. He was pinned in his third match, and dropped down to the consolation brackets, where he lost 5-3 in a sudden death overtime period.
