Archbold 8th Grade Boys Basketball

Two wins last week upped the season record to 5-1 for the Archbold eighth grade boys basketball team.

David Bontrager nailed six consecutive free throws to preserve a 39-33 decision over Defiance, Tuesday, Jan. 6. Taylor Price, Jay Miller, and Zeb Frank combined for 25 of the Blue Streak points. Stuart Wyse, Tyson Dietrich, Bryce Tinsman, and Bontrager all added to the final tally.

After leading by only three points at halftime, Archbold outscored Swanton 29-10 in the second half to bounce the Bulldogs 50-28, Thursday, Jan. 8. Dietrich powered his way to a seasonhigh 20 points to lead the Streaks in both scoring and rebounding. Frank added 14, while Price and Miller combined for 16.

The next game is at Patrick Henry, Thursday, Jan. 15.

Archbold 7th Grade Girls Basketball

The Archbold seventh grade girls basketball team entertained Defiance, Tuesday, Jan 6. The team came out a little slow but led 8-0 after one. They widened the gap to 18-4 at halftime.

The Streaks gave a great defensive effort the second half and held Defiance scoreless. They cruised to a 36-4 victory. All 12 team members contributed; Cassidy Wyse led the way with 12 points. Jesse Fidler had 8; Krista Leupp and Paige Peterson, 4 each; Ciara Burris, Jessie Walker, Jennifer Gerken, and Bailey Short, 2 each. Wyse had 5 rebounds while Leupp, Peterson and Lexi Ramirez each had 3.

The team traveled to Swanton, Thursday, Jan. 8. Once again they got off to a big start and led 16-2 after one quarter. The Streaks’ half-court trap defense caused many turnovers that led to baskets, and AMS won 40-16 to raise its record to 5-0.

Scoring were Wyse, 12; Fidler, 8; Desi Newman and Burris, 6 each; Walker and Leupp, 4 each. Rebounding leaders were Wyse, 5; Fidler, Walker and Burris, 4 each.

Pettisville 7th Grade Boys Basketball

The Pettisville seventh grade boys basketball team was defeated by Edon 38-32, Saturday, Dec. 6, and by Liberty Center 35-26, Tuesday, Dec. 9.

The Birds won their first game 39- 20 over Stryker, Saturday, Dec. 13. At Evergreen Tuesday, Dec. 16, Pettisville lost by two, 26-24. Dominic Frey led the Birds with 11 points. Kurt Siegel and Troy King chipped in 7 and 4, respectively. Evergreen was led by Dauling and Pinkelman with 9 each.

Pettisville traveled to Fayette, Saturday, Jan. 3, and came home with a 28-23 victory. Korben Rychener led the Birds with 8 points. Frey had 7; Siegel, 5; King, 4; and Connor Tuckerman, 4. Chandler Sanford led Fayette with 10.

Back on the road Monday, Jan. 5, the Birds evened their record at 3-3 with a 32-23 win at North Central. Frey and Siegel each had 9 points; Cam Norris pitched in 8. Clayton Ferguson led NC with 7. Archbold 7th Grade Boys Basketball

The Archbold seventh grade boys basketball team traveled to Defiance, Tuesday, Jan. 6. Archbold had difficulty scoring in the first quarter and fell behind 12-4. The second quarter was still an offensive struggle, but the Streaks outscored the Bulldogs 7-5 to go into the locker room down 17-11.

In third-quarter action, the Blue Streaks continued to cut into the lead and got the gap down to two points, but Defiance hit a last-second shot to end the quarter. The Streaks were down 23-19 heading into the fourth.

Archbold was unable to bucket any points in the final stanza and fell 31-19. Micah Bernath and Chan Wyse combined for 11 points.

The Streaks hosted Swanton, Thursday, Jan. 8. Archbold jumped out to an 8-1 lead after one. AMS outscored the Bulldogs every quarter to coast to a 54-12 victory.

Forest Stuckey led the way with 8 points. AJ Deck, Tyson Schnitkey, and Lee Klinger each had 7.
