Archbold 8th Grade Football

The Archbold eighth grade football team capped off a successful season by hosting Delta and winning 34-6, giving the Streaks a 4-3 record.

Archbold and Delta played even on their first possessions, but on Delta’s second attempt to move the ball, the Archbold defense stuffed the run. Levi Gerig led the charge, along with Bryce Tinsman and Tyler Bryan.

The visitors were forced to punt. Jacob Risinger broke through the line from his defensive end position and partially blocked it. That was all the Streaks needed to change the momentum.

Quarterback Tyson Dietrich calmly took over and marched down the field. Dietrich followed CJ Gladieux and Josiah McQuillan off the right side for a large gain down inside the 5-yard line. Taylor Price ran the ball in and the Streaks led 6-0.

Another fine defensive stand was made by the Streaks as they forced a fumble that was recovered by Gerig. Dietrich calmly sat in the pocket and delivered a perfect pass to Darin Sauder to cover 55 yards, and quickly Archbold was up 12-0.

Just before halftime, the Panthers put a score on the board to make it 12-6.

With under a minute remaining until halftime, Archbold came out throwing. The Streaks moved the ball down the field, and Tyson Lersch made a tremendous catch on a play that covered 32 yards. The Streaks were tackled on the 2-yard line as the half expired.

Archbold had the ball to start the second half and moved to their own 49, where great up-the-middle blocking by Zach Zimmerman at center allowed Dietrich to run for 51 yards and a touchdown. Lersch made another difficult catch for the point-after-touchdown, and the lead was 20-6.

On the next possession, Ryan Holdgreve’s defense was again up to the task. Michael Walker picked off a Panther pass and returned it to midfield, where the Streak offensive machine was gearing up again. Pressure was applied by the defensive tackle position and Brendon Manz, along with defensive end Justice Zimmerman.

Dietrich again used his offensive line, this time to the left, with Adam Steider and Anthony Covarubias leading the way as he scampered 32 yards to the end zone. Sauder caught the PAT and Archbold was comfortably ahead 28-6.

The Streaks finished the scoring as Price took the snap at quarterback and ran 52 yards for the score.

Other team members are Justin Arce, Josh Coffey, Dylan Lantz, John Ricky Riscigno, and Kyle Wesche. Managers were Andrew Beck, Toby Walker, Levi Wyse, and Justin Lovejoy. Coaches were Holdgreve and Norman Beck.
