Archbold 8th Grade Football

The Archbold eighth grade football team was on the road for the first time this season, Thursday, Oct. 2 and came home with a hard-fought 8-0 defensive win over Evergreen.

The two teams battled in the first half and were unable to score. Twice the Blue Streaks were deep into Evergreen territory, but came up empty. Strong offensive line blocking by Jacob Risinger, Zac Zimmerman, and Levi Gerig gave the Streaks the opportunity to move the ball.

Just before the end of the first half, Evergreen mounted a drive that took it into Archbold’s end of the field. What looked to be a very good pass play for the Vikings was stopped cold as Justin Arce came from his cornerback position and made a tremendous tackle along the sideline to end the threat.

In the second half, offensive line blocking was even better and Tyson Dietrich ran from his quarterback position 44 yards down to the Evergreen 6- yard line. From there, Dietrich bulled up the middle behind center Zimmerman for the score. Bryce Tinsman was on the receiving end of Dietrich’s pass for the point-after-touchdown and an 8-0 lead.

The Archbold defense continued its dominance against the Vikings. Gerig came up with two big tackles for loss, and Zimmerman was credited with a quarterback sack.

The Streaks are 2-2 on the season.
