Archbold 8th Grade Football

Archbold was in action at Spengler Field, Thursday, Sept. 4, hosting Delta. The Streaks started off well and captured a 32-14 victory.

Archbold was on defense first and stopped the Panthers as Zac Rocha recovered a Delta fumble. The Streaks didn’t take long to score as Jeron Williams followed his blocking and took the ball 55 yards for the first touchdown of the season. Holden Galvan and Brendon Johns provided blocks to spring Williams. Williams then connected with Rocha on the point-after-touchdown attempt, and the score stood at 8-0.

The defense again forced a turnover; this time on an interception. Hunter Beaverson picked off the errant pass and raced 58 yards for the score. Rocha’s run added the PAT and the Archbold was looking good with a 16-0 lead in the first quarter.

The teams traded punts, and on Delta’s fourth possession, the Panthers had a couple of long plays. The visitors eventually scored and got its PAT, cutting the difference to 16-8.

Williams then made a great pass to Austin Wiemken just before the half and Wiemken did the rest, running for a 43-yard and the touchdown. Larryjose Tijerina ran the PAT, and at the half, Archbold led 24-8.

Delta added another touchdown in the third quarter, but strong defense by Gage Dalton and Adam Mahnke held on the extra-point try. The Streaks lead stood at 24-14.

Beaverson came up with his second pick-six of the game, this time getting a 63-yard interception for a touchdown. Travis Ziegler made a perfect pass to Rocha for the PAT, giving Archbold a 32-14 advantage.
