Members of the Archbold Area School Board elected Jon Lugbill, one of the board’s newest members, as board president at their Monday, Jan. 10 organizational meeting.
He replaces Scott Miller, who was president for several years.
Lugbill was the only person nominated for the president position.
Lugbill joined the board in 2010 after being the top votegetter in the November 2009 general election.
Lugbill said his taking over of the board presidency does not reflect a shift in power or other changes to the board.
“We discussed who would be willing to take it,” he said.
Tony Warncke, who was appointed to the board in November 2008, was elected vice president. His was the only nomination. Personnel
Board members took several personnel actions at the Jan. 10 meeting.
Dina Gladieux was approved a volunteer indoor track coach for the 2010-11 season.
She was also granted a one-year supplemental contract as head high school track coach for the 2010-11 school year.
Contracts were approved for Brenda Beck, Shelly Conway, Kelly Ducey, Manda Eigensee, JoAnn Short, and Alissa Stockburger. They will provide after-school intervention services for the 2010-11 school year.
Jeff Benecke and Jan Lindsay were named as substitute teachers for the after school intervention program.
A supplemental contract was approved for Ashley Double for the remainder of the school year as the junior high school cheerleader coach.
The board also accepted the resignation of Michael Whiteman, school district maintenance worker and custodian. His resignation is effective June 30. Executive Session
Board members met in executive session for about 40 minutes.
The stated reason was to “discuss the employment, promotion, or demotion of public employees.”
No action resulted from the executive session.
All board members were present, and all votes were unanimous.
The school board will hold a special meeting today, Wednesday, at 6 pm at the AHS new conference room.
The next regular board meeting is Monday, Feb. 21, 7 pm, in the AHS media center.
