Joe Wyse, Archbold police chief, is continuing a slow recovery from a stroke that left him hospitalized.

Jim Wyse, mayor and Joe’s brother, said Joe is currently in the Flower Hospital inpatient rehabilitation unit. He was transferred there about three weeks ago.

“Joe continues to go through about four hours of therapy a day including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy, and one session each day where the OT and PT therapists work together and get a little more aggressive.

“He shows improvement every day. They are small but positive steps on a long journey,” Jim said.

“Current schedule has him possibly coming home in early December.”

Archbold Rescue was called to Joe’s home on Tuesday, Sept. 22.

He was taken to the Fulton County Health Center, then flown by helicopter ambulance to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo, where he was originally admitted in critical condition in the St. Vs intensive care unit.

A stroke, also known as a cardiovascular accident, occurs when the blood supply to part of the brain is interrupted or severely reduced.

Brain tissue is deprived of oxygen and nutrients.

Within minutes, brain cells begin to die.

Those wishing to send cards to Joe should address them to Joe Wyse, 408 Primrose Lane, Archbold, OH 43502.
