Jesus Gomez, 90, of Archbold, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior after a brief illness.
After saying goodbye to his loving children and grandchildren, Jesus passed away on a beautiful Thursday morning on Sept. 28, 2017.
Jesus was born on June 12, 1927, to Romualdo and Nieves (Aguirre) Gomez in Sabinas, Coahuila Mexico.
He married Juanita Aguirre on Jan. 7, 1947, who preceded him in death on Aug, 31, 2016.
Jesus worked for the early part of his life as a migrant farmer, moving from town to town to earn a living and support his family.
In 1964, Jesus started working at La Choy Foods at the age of 37 and continued working there when the company became ConAgra Foods before finally retiring in 2011 with 47 years of service at the age of 84.
He spent the rest of his free time tending to his yard, growing his garden of peppers and tomatoes, and watching his beloved Detroit Tigers play baseball.
Besides baseball, Jesus loved the sport of boxing and enjoyed his visits with family and friends.
Jesus never asked for a handout, but was always ready to give of himself for those who asked for his help.
Jesus is survived by nine children: Arturo (Anita) Gomez of Hastings, Mich., Ruben (Darcy) Gomez of Hudson, Mich., Cecilia Maria Gomez of Archbold, Jesus Gomez Jr. of Archbold, Santiago Gomez of Wauseon, Tony (Laura) Gomez of Wauseon, Alicia (Gabriel) Soto of Archbold, Rene Gomez of Archbold, and Mario (Tonya) Gomez of Archbold.
Jesus was also blessed with 24 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren, who will carry on his legacy.
Jesus was the last remaining member of his family that consisted of five brothers and seven sisters.
He was preceded in death by his wife; two infant sons (Ruben and Jesus Gomez), two daughters (Yolanda Mendrell Aguirre, Gloria Rodriguez), one grandson (Ismael Gomez), and one great-grandson (Jeremy Gomez).
Services were held on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church with Father Tom Gorman officiating. Private interment was in St. Peter Cemetery.
