Income Tax Revenue Up More Than 20%

Archbold municipal income tax was up more than 27% for June when compared to 2020, according to a report presented to Archbold Village Council, Tuesday, July 6.

Total collections from Jan. 1-June 30 were up 24.52% over 2020.

In the first six months of 2021 the total collected was about $2.76 million.

June tax collections are up almost 27.5% compared to 2020. Total collections were in excess of $397,000.

In five of the first six months of 2021, month-tomonth comparisons show increases of anywhere from 11% to 52%. Only February was down, by about $41,000, roughly 10.4%.

In April and May, results were more than 50% higher than the same two months in 2020.

Good Or Bad

The statistics beg the question, is 2021 that good, or was 2020 that bad?

With the economic troubles caused by the Coronavirus pandemic shutdown, total tax receipts in 2020 were down. In all, the tax brought in $4,609,808.23 in 2020, about 1.2% down from 2019.

The record year for income tax revenue was 2016, when the total collection topped $4.8 million. The 2020 figure was off from the 2016 record by 6.6%.

Out of the first six months of 2020, collections were down from 2019 on four occasions. In some cases, the shortfall was large.

For example, in April 2020, the tax brought in about $444,000. In the preceding four Aprils, from 2016- 2019, tax revenue topped $600,000.

Meeting

Donna Dettling, village administrator, told council that Marcia Franks, village income tax commissioner, was “cautiously optimistic” that the increases in income tax revenue will continue through the rest of 2021.
