Ilva Mae Grieser



Ilva Mae Grieser, age 92 years, of Archbold, passed away Oct. 12, 2010, at Fairlawn Haven, Archbold.

She was born Aug. 27, 1918, in Wauseon, a daughter of Moses and Ida (Nofzinger) Nofziger. She married Chauncy Ervin Grieser on March 17, 1942.

Ilva lived in the Lawrence County, Ohio area from 1954- 2002, and was a member of Wayside Chapel Mennonite Church.

Ilva moved into Fairlawn in December 2002 and enjoyed visiting with the people living there. West Clinton Mennonite Church and Fairlawn Chapel became her church family.

Ilva accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized in 1930 and became a member of West Clinton Mennonite Church.

Ilva and Chauncy were involved in ministry all their lives and helped start the work at the church in Holland, Ohio. After moving to southern Ohio, they pastored for over 40 years at Warneke Chapel and Wayside Chapel (Pedro, Ohio).

Ilva did short-term services with Mennonite Disaster Service, Mennonite Central Committee Self-Help, Habitat for Humanity (worked on the first two homes in Lawrence County), and Wycliffe Bible Translators.

From 1969 to 1973, Ilva and Chauncy operated a bakery out of their home delivering their baked goods in a 50-mile radius. Some of the equipment used in the bakery was sold to The Doughbox, Archbold.

Ilva enjoyed crafts and quilting. In her later years she began painting and enjoyed sharing her paintings with others. The bulletin cover picture was painted in August 2001.

Ilva is survived by two daughters, Hazel Shifflet of Harrisonburg, Va., and Judith (Jerry) Kelly of South Webster, Ohio; two sons, David (Kathleen) Grieser of Wauseon, and Dana (Sharon) Grieser of Winston-Salem, N.C.; 13 grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren; one sister, Bernice (Maynard) Rufenacht of Archbold, and one brother, Daryl (Margaret) Nofziger of Wauseon.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers, Clifford, Orville, and Wayne; and two sisters, Kathryn Short and Elverda Rufenacht.

Graveside services were in Pettisville Cemetery on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a memorial service at West Clinton Mennonite Church at 10:30 a.m.

Memorials may be given to Wayside Chapel, Pedro, OH, or donor’s choice.

Short Funeral Home, Archbold, was in charge of the arrangements.
