John Huffman, veteran Archbold kart racer, won the first points race at the Fremont kart racing track, Sunday, June 28.
It was a record day at the track, with fast time establishing the track record for the year. Racing in Pro Oval Heavy on the paved oval track, Huffman turned the fast time and will hold the record for the year.
He finished third in a heat race, which, when combined with his record run, put him on the pole for the feature event. He led flag-to-flag to earn the victory.
There will be seven points races at Fremont this season, with five counting toward the class championship.
In action June 7, Huffman won the first of two heat races, then got into a tangle with another racer and ended up sideways on the track. He was able to finish third in the heat.
In the feature, he started on the pole, but kept falling back, finally finishing fourth.
Upon close inspection, he discovered the crash damaged the one brake, and knocked his steering out of alignment.
Huffman reported all those at the track practiced social distancing and were respectful of efforts to combat the Coronavirus pandemic.
“People will find ways to make things work,” he said.
