Huffman Wins At Fremont Kart Track

Brian Huffman, Archbold, won the stock heavy class, Sunday, Oct. 28, at the paved oval kart track in Fremont.

The event was the Sam Hornish, Jr. Foundation Fall Classic.

Huffman has driven racing karts off and on since 1991, when he was 13. He is the son of John Huffman, veteran Archbold kart racer.

In the two stock heavy class heat races, he won the first and finished fourth in the second.

Huffman also raced in the clone heavy class, where he was fourth in the first heat. He didn’t run in the second heat due to engine trouble, and was fourth in the clone heavy feature due to a faulty clutch.

Steve Burkholder, Pettisville, was second in the clone heavy feature. He was third in the first heat and first in the second.

Justin Aschliman, Pettisville, was six and fifth in clone heavy heats and fifth in the feature race.

John Huffman recovered sufficiently from his broken foot. He slipped a steel plate into his racing shoe, and was fourth and sixth in stock heavy heat races, and fourth in the feature behind his son.

Also racing out of the John Huffman Racing stables is 16- year-old Hope Hornish, rural Defiance, a niece to NASCAR racer and local kart veteran Sam Hornish Jr.

Hope Hornish won the stock medium class feature, after a first and second in heat races.

This ends the racing season for the Archbold contingent, John Huffman said.–information provided by John Huffman, written by David Pugh
